On Friday 26th of April at 7.30pm, Jean Kelly and I will give a concert featuring ‘Across the Water’ by David Wallace with text by Dan Milmo – a new song cycle exploring the lives of modern Irish emigrants in London. It is based on extensive interviews with different generations of Irish people living in London.
This piece is very close to our hearts. Jean and I wanted to create a work which would celebrate the contribution Irish emigrants have made to life in London which would acknowledge our past history but also look forward to the bright futures many Irish emigrants carved out for themselves in London and further afield.
‘Across the Water’ was premiered in Camden in 2016 and is performed here alongside the UK premiere of Nico Muhly’s ‘Byzantium’ (commissioned by the National Concert Hall in Dublin for Yeats 2015), Benjamin Britten’s ‘Salley Gardens’ and other songs of emigration. The evening will also feature a panel discussion on how ‘Across the Water’ came to be.
Tickets on the door and further information available here.
